It can be tempting to go out and splurge on a new wardrobe the minute you get a positive pregnancy test result, but unless you are very wealthy, you may want to hold off for a while. Pregnant bodies change quickly and you have no idea what yours is going to do! As a mother of three (with each pregnancy treating my body differently) I would offer you the following advice:

Borrow - Do you have a sister or a friend who has offered to lend you some clothes? You may be picky when it comes to fashion, but with an ever-expanding belly you may find yourself grateful for something different to wear. Don't say no to these offers and use the money you save on something for your new baby's room or that stroller you have your eye on!

Look for versatile items - There are many fashion lines out there now that offer you clothing that will work throughout your pregnancy and beyond. The more you can wear an item the less money you will have to spend. Comfort is Key - If an item is ill-fitting or uncomfortable you probably will not wear it. Spending a bit more on a pair of pants that fit and feel good is a better investment than buying three pairs you hate. Look for soft fabrics and cuts that flatter your frame and items you can wear multiple times but perhaps change up with accessories. A pregnant body is a beautiful body. Wear what makes you feel like a million bucks and treasure this special time!

Invest in a good bra - Breast tissue is delicate and needs proper support to keep it from sagging. You can skimp in other places, but do yourself and your breasts a favor and get properly fitted for a bra. There are some fantastic brands out there designed for the pregnant and nursing woman that not only provide support but are incredibly comfortable as well. Expect that your breasts will change and that you may have to buy a couple of different sizes. A good fitting bra will make your clothes look better as well!

Look for second-hand - Consignment shops or sites like eBay are great places to look for deals on designer items. Often women will buy a dress for a special occasion and only wear it once.
